Consider the tranquil and friendly town of New Braunfels, when moving to Hill Country Texas. We offer a unique combination of easy access to Interstate 35 and the quaint charm of a small Hill Country town. Founded in 1845 by German settlers, New Braunfels offers two wonderful school districts; New Braunfels and Canyon, an award winning Hospital, and state of the art medical care with quick access to two major airports in San Antonio and Austin, Texas. The population has recently grown from 36,000 in 2000 to 47,000 in 2005. We are home too many world famous attractions such as Guadalupe River, The Natural Bridge Caverns/Wildlife Ranch and Schlitterbahn Water Park - In New Braunfels, Ist das leben schoen! (In New Braunfels, The Living is Good!) The Gruene Historical District is located within the city limits of New Braunfels. Founded by the sons of settlers Ernst and Antoinette Gruene, it had a bank, post office, school, general store, lumberyard, gristmill and cotton gin. It also had access to two railways for shipping cotton bales, a real coup in those times. Its' most famous attribute was the dance hall, a family activity in those days. Due to the failure of the cotton crop from Boll Weevils, and the failure of the banks after 1929, it became a ghost town. This village was purchased by developers in the mid-70's and was saved from demolition by Cheryle Fuller, who did all the research to list it on The National Register of Historic Places, wrote the protective covenants of the Deed Restrictions, and successfully defended them in court. It has remained largely intact with some small improvements, and has become a vacation destination with the white water Guadalupe river below it. New Braunfels is equadistant from San Antonio and Austin and it is 10 miles to Interstate 10 and the only 160 miles to Houston. There are many large businesses that offer job opportubities such as The Scooter Store, Coleman, and the Wal-Mart Distribution Center. Smithson Valley is a part of the Comal Independent School District (ISD), serving the western portion of Comal County. As a top relocation destination, Smithson Valley is in the midst of a large-scale expansion project, which will ensure top-quality education for the new students that continue to arrive in the area. Academic standards here are high, with the majority of graduating seniors continuing their educations at the college and university levels. Even as it continues to grow, Smithson Valley maintains a close-knit community atmosphere. Extracurricular activities are vast and varied, ranging from special-interest clubs to a number of boys’ and girls’ sports teams. Parents in the district pride themselves on their high level of involvement in their children’s educational and social activities. You will find that Smithson Valley also boasts enormous turnout for sporting events and a very active Booster Club.
